NATURE AND KALKAN
The town of KALKAN is a beautiful seaside community in southwest Turkey featuring excellent facilities and modern conveniences appreciated by those looking for exciting holidays, summer vacation homes or residential dwellings.
The natural beauty of the seashore is made up of islands and countless small gulfs along the shore. The untouched small bays are beautiful. Sandy flowered beaches form a restful environment which can not be imagined in the busy daily life in the city.
The water of the mediterranean at Kalkan is always crystal clear and very clean. This colorful part of the sea with its most beautiful dark blue water and fresh underwater springs is an ideal recreational spot where you will never tire of swimming and enjoying underwater sports. Kalkan is visited by 1500 yatches each year providing the opportunity for meeting and becoming friends with interesting people from other countries with different customs and traditions.
The climate in the area is unique in Turkey. Since the shore is protected my mountains in the north and has countless small bays, the weather is ideal. For this reason, it is considered rare to be deprived of the wonderful opportunity to enjoy all of the vacation pleasures offered by this region.
In addition to swimming, sunbathing and boathing, one can take exciting excursions into nearby mountains and enjoy the cool dry weather of the plateaus and higlands. You can visit the beautiful GÖMBE and ELMALI waterfalls and the green pine tree forests.
HISTORY AND KALKAN
For the town of KALKAN, which was built as a village for fishermen near a cold spring flowing for centuries called KALAMAKI. Herodotus, the great historian said, "it is the place where the Moon and the stars are seen the nearest to the earth." You can drive to PATARA, the birth place of St.Nicholas who is known as Noel Baba in our country, within 15-20 minutes and visit famous ruins and go swimming at the natura! beaches kilometers in lenght. You can also visit the ancient Roman settlements called LETOON, PYAHAI, XANTHOS, SIDYMA, and PINARA in the vicinity of Esen tributary as you travel to FETHİYE.
Going east from KALKAN, you will be able to see the Blue Cave, the ancient remains of cities such as ANDIFLI and MYRA, the KEKOVA Island, the Roman Tombs in the Dead Sea, structures which still have all the features of sunken cities and sunken ships in only 1 or 2 meters of water not requiring deep diving.
Like its natural beauty, the historical features of KALKAN are difficult to describe by words alone.
